3 ways to find the right product for your roof

Picking a roofing product can be overwhelming, especially when there’s storms and other weather hazards threatening your home. But there are some ways to make your choice. 

Extreme weather is becoming more prevalent across the United States, posing challenges for homeowners. Because your roof is the first line of defense against Mother Nature, it is important to make sure that the products used on your roof are up to the challenge. DaVinci Roofscapes sponsored a Read Listen Watch® (RLW) webinar where Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with a panel of roofing experts from across the country to talk about the importance of selecting the right roofing products to safeguard your home in severe conditions. The panel included Todd Knight from Dynasty Roofing in Texas, Thomas Ice from Storm King in Colorado and Cody Bates from Florida Specialty Roofing in Florida. 

1 - Ask around your neighborhood 

Thomas shared some of his thoughts about protecting homes in the Colorado mountains, saying that he sees a lot of customers come to him with ideas of what they want based on what they have heard and seen succeed for those around them. He explained, “Most of these people's neighbors have DaVinci roofs on their home and they want to go with that look. Also, to keep the rustic look of the place, the wood shake look, we do some slate, but it's mostly wood shake. A lot of word of mouth, and ‘I want what they have.’”  

2 - Get tips from your insurance 

For homeowners trying to prepare for the frequent and intense hailstorms of Texas, Todd shared that insurance companies often drive decisions. He explained, “Probably 80% to 90% of our business is insurance driven because of the frequency of the storm. So that's when we have our first contact with most of our new customers, and usually the first question I'm asked is, how do I not have to do this again anytime soon? And so, we obviously begin to talk to them about impact resistant products.”  

3 - Check in with the contractor 

Cody, who operates in Florida, explained that he often works to guide his customers because his state has extremely strict building codes. He shared, “A big part of our company is education and product knowledge, educating people that they're making the best financial decision as well as standing the curb appeal and choosing the product that's going to withstand the storms.”
