When it comes to your roof, it’s never a good idea to blow off an annual inspection. Regardless of what season it is, the smallest issues with your roof can quickly snowball into something much worse. Thankfully, Quarrix has a handy roof inspection checklist available on their site for homeowners to use at their disposal. While you do want to contact a roofer to give you a more detailed inspection, there are smaller issues you can identify on your own.
Here are a few things their checklist encourages you to look out for:
When shingles are missing or curled from excessive moisture, it means the shingles are not properly secured and they leave a home exposed to major leakage.
Although pipe vents and flashing are great for airflow and weatherproofing a home when they are working properly. When damaged, it allows water to penetrate the roof deck and small animals like rats or squirrels can enter your home.
Roofing granules on asphalt shingles are designed to protect your roof from sun exposure. When they are missing, this can cause sun and water damage which harms the lifespan of your roof.
If you find moss or lichen on your roof, you want to remove it as soon as possible. They can shorten the lifespan of your roof because they allow debris and moisture to accumulate, which harms your roof in the long run.
Check out the rest of the checklist on Quarrix’s website and download a copy for yourself as well.
