Make more informed and confident decisions about your roof with the MRA Buyer’s Guide.

A reroofing project is probably the biggest investment the average homeowner will have to pay beyond the purchasing of the property. It is a big decision and can be very stressful. That’s where tools like the Metal Roofing Alliance’s (MRA) Buyer’s Guide come in handy. In this episode of the AskARoofer Podcast, Megan Ellsworth and Lauren White host Renee Ramey from MRA to talk about the guide and the recent updates that have been made to it!

The MRA Buyer’s Guide is designed to help a homeowner from the very first stages of a reroof. Renee explained, “It starts by providing insights and guidance around what to look for to decide if you do need a new roof.” From there, it helps the homeowner analyze and identify any regional differences that might affect their choices. And then, it shows them their options, specifically in metal roofing. Renee described the way this is presented, “We introduce them to metal roofing as far as there's a lot of myths about metal roofing out there and so it's important that they're aware that it comes in a variety of different styles, colors, can look like any other roofing material.” And all of that is just the beginning of the guide. It also includes information about the accessories and other products involved in a roof replacement. This is everything from underlayments to vents and roof jacks.

Just this year, MRA has updated the guide to include more information based on new studies, data and roofing options. Renee explained what this update added, “We went in and did a complete overall comparison guide. This is a series of tables that cross-compare metal roofing to other materials in certain categories such as environmental impacts and other benefits, weather performance, things of that nature, as well as cost and typical length of warranty.” They also put a lot of focus on the financial side of a roof replacement. Renee explained, “It’s a pretty decent financing section that just walks through things to consider, but certainly we want them to be aware that nobody expects them to stroke a check for the roof up front, that there are a lot of options out there that make it 100% viable for any homeowner.”
