Experienced roofer Clint Strober answers homeowners' top questions about roofing.

No matter what time of the year, if you need a roof, you need expert guidance. That’s why our “Contractor Insights” feature is so popular. It offers quick “things you need to know” advice from expert roofers. This month we’re featuring Clint Strober, owner of Strober Roofing and Maintenance out of Flemington, New Jersey.

Q: What are the top three things homeowners should ask a roofer about when looking for a replacement roof?

A:

  1. Licensing and experience: When looking for a full roof replacement, always use a licensed and insured roofing company that has years of experience and who stands by the quality of their work.
  2. Material quality: The quality of the materials and products used are also extremely important to ensure the longevity of your roofing system.
  3. Warranties: Lastly, homeowners should always ask about warranties. Many roofing material manufacturers have warranties, so be sure to ask your roofer for a copy of your roof’s warranty on top of their workmanship warranty.

Q: If there’s storm damage involved to a roof, what tips do you have for a homeowner working with an insurance adjuster?

A: If you believe storm damage has impacted your roof, I always recommend a licensed roofer conduct a thorough roof inspection prior to the homeowner contacting their insurance company. A licensed roofer can properly assess any damage, take photos and record any potential damage that the homeowner can then share with their insurance adjuster.

Q: Why has your company chosen to recommend DaVinci composite roofing to your customers?

A: With DaVinci composite roofing, you get a durable long-lasting roof with less long-term maintenance than a conventional shingle roof. They have the look of slate and cedar shake but still fit into most homeowner’s budgets.

DaVinci products offer a Class A Fire Rating, Class 4 Impact Rating and a 110 mph Wind Rating to ensure your roof will stand up to the elements and will not curl, rot or crack. This often saves on homeowner insurance rates year-after-year.

Another thing is that DaVinci has a wide range of colors for homeowners to choose from and a host of options that mirror the look of traditional slate or cedar shake. DaVinci warranties their products, providing longterm assurance that your roof will last.
