Q: What are some of the top things homeowners should ask a roofer about when looking for a replacement roof? 

A: Start by inquiring about the roofing company’s process from start to finish. Get a high level understanding and ask detailed questions along the way. For example: 

• How much experience do your employees have? 
• How long have the installers been working with you? 
• Who is/are my main point/s of contact? 
• Can you supply me with proof of insurance and licensing for my particular jurisdiction? 
• What is the expected timeline from project commencement to completion? 
• How is the best way to prepare for a major construction project at my home? 

Q: Why should homeowners seriously consider composite roofing when looking for a roof? 

A: A composite roof can transform the look of a home, especially if a qualified construction expert is advising on the project and options. You’ll discover it can potentially increase the value of your property as well. Overall, composite roofing is a great option for a luxury appearance at an affordable price. 

Q: What are your best “homeowner survival tips” for getting through a roofing installation?  

A: My company has implemented the following project process to make homeowners feel “ready” for the project. You can ask your roofer to create a similar process:

• Step #1 – Conduct a pre-job walk with the property owner to discuss property protecting the home. Discuss quality control during the project. 
• Step #2 – Provide a document to the property owner on how to prepare for the project that includes items such as children and pet safety, noise considerations, and interior preparation. 
• Step #3 – Upon project completion, perform a final walk through with the property owner and create a punch list to complete before close-out. 

The Roofing Revolution offers tickets to homeowners to attend a local activity to allow them the luxury of leaving their house and the noise during re-roofing. Most people don’t understand how loud and disruptive a major construction project can be.  

Q: If there’s storm damage involved to a roof, what tips do you have for a homeowner? 

A: About 85% of the work we perform is through an insurance claim. I always recommend that a property owner contact a qualified contractor to assess the damage before filing an insurance claim. Get a professional to give you an assessment. After you know what you’re dealing with, then contact your policyholder and ask the following questions: 

• What is my deductible amount? 
• Is this a RCV, AVC or RSPS policy? 
• Are there any pertinent exclusions, such as soft metals or decking (sheathing)? 
• Does the policy including selecting the contractor of my choice? 
• What is the loss assessment process with the insurance carrier? 
• What are the loss settlement provisions in my policy?
