Looking for insights from experienced roofers for your upcoming product? You’ve come to the right place. This month our “Contactor Insights” feature focuses on key items every homeowner should know before jumping into a roofing project. To help guide the way, Trent Lovewell, vice president of Weatherguard Inc., The ROOFEREES, out of Omaha, Nebraska, is weighing in on five questions.
Q: What are the top three things homeowners should ask a roofer when looking for a replacement roof?
A: Easy. Homeowners should be asking about the quality of the product they’re looking at, the manufacturer’s warranty on the product, and the pricing of the product. Those three elements form the basis for any roofing project.
Q: Why should homeowners seriously consider composite roofing when looking for a roof?
A: The long-lasting element of a composite roof is very appealing for many homeowners. Especially in an area like where we are, where hail and severe weather occur almost yearly, the composite roof is a winner. Once you have it in place, there will be no re-roofing needed for many years.
Q: What are your best “homeowner survival tips” for getting through a roofing installation?
A: Expect the worst, and you’ll be surprised after day two how clean it is with a good crew! That being said, make sure to remove all valuable outdoor items and store them in a safe place for the duration of the project. Anything surrounding the house — from potted plants to garden art — should all be removed before a roofing project begins.
Q: If there’s storm damage to a roof, what tips do you have for a homeowner working with an insurance adjuster?
A: Adjusters are very busy people. They know what they’re doing and require time to get their jobs done correctly. Don’t try to push them along. They have an extensive job to do in evaluating after a storm. Once the adjuster presents you with the paperwork, take your time to thoroughly review the offer. If you’re not comfortable with the offer, then you can request another review. Most importantly, don’t sign any contracts unless you have thoroughly reviewed them, understand them and agreed to the settlement.
Q: Why has your company chosen to recommend DaVinci composite roofing to your customers?
A: In the Midwest, where storms are prevalent, some homeowners have their roof replaced with the exact same materials after every storm. They may get a new roof every few years. We don’t want to re-roof the same house three times in 10 years! We understand that it’s best for the homeowner to invest in a composite roof. Over the years we’ve installed thousands of DaVinci roofs. They offer top-of-the-line quality and reliability. It’s simply the best product available for homeowners.
