When this Army veteran needed a new roof for over a decade, these nonprofits stepped up to the plate and granted his wish.

Army veteran Christopher Hayes and his family were in need of a new roof for a long time, but were unsure how they could afford it. Thankfully two nonprofit organizations in their hometown of Denver, Colorado were gracious enough to give his home a free new roof.

Denver7 Everyday Hero presents weekly awards to Coloradans who make a difference. To help Christopher out, they partnered with Cenco Building Services and Blues and BBQ For Better Housing. Matt Dirr, owner of Cenco, said that he and his crew want to help build a better community.

"Charitable giving is part of our DNA at the company. We actually give 2% of our top line revenue to charity every year," Dirr told Denver7. His partnership with Blues and BBQ for Better Housing – who also helps raise money for the community – has allowed them to give free roofs to those in need. As of now, Cenco has donated seven roofs, each one costing anywhere between $12,000 and $20,000.

Dirr and his team feel really great to be able to give back to veterans like Christopher. He told Denver7, "We came in and we were able to replace the roof and gutters and made a significant change in their life to protect their home for someone that had put their time and service to the country.”

Ranger Miller of Blues and BBQ for Better Housing commented on Dirr being hands-on throughout the whole process. "He’ll get out there and he’ll actually dig the hole," he told Denver7. "He gets up there on the roofs and swings a hammer. He’s just fantastic. Super cool guy to work with, just salt of the Earth."

The Hayes family is very grateful for this act of charitable giving. They were unable to afford this roof and needed a new one for over a decade. Christopher’s wife Vanessa told Denver7, “It lifts a financial burden off our shoulders.”

Christopher said, "The support they’re showing for veterans is just awesome.”
