From aesthetics to energy efficiency, your choice of roofing can make a significant difference. In a recent AskARoofer podcast episode, Megan Ellsworth and Lauren White recently sat down with Renee Ramey, executive director of the Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA), to shed light on some of the most pressing questions homeowners face when considering a new roof.
Renee introduced the MRA's Ultimate Buyer's Guide, a comprehensive tool designed to steer homeowners through the re-roofing process. "It's an overarching document to guide homeowners through the re-roofing process of their home," Renee said. The guide places a special focus on metal roofing, a material that is gaining traction for its longevity, durability and environmental benefits.
One of the initial challenges for homeowners is knowing when it's time to replace their existing roof. Signs to look out for include leaks, a spike in heating and cooling bills and visible damage to your current roof.
Renee emphasizes that regional climate conditions can have a significant impact on your choice of roofing material. From wildfire resistance to snow load capacity, different materials offer distinct advantages depending on your locality.
According to Renee, investing in a quality metal roof could save you from multiple replacements over the years. "If you install a quality metal roof, you're going to do it once in a 50 plus year period versus an asphalt roof, you're probably going to be replacing that two to three times in that same period," she stated.
Whether you've just started to consider buying a new roof or are already deep in the decision-making process, expert advice like Renee's is invaluable. With proper planning and the right resources, you'll be well-equipped to make the right choice.
