The contracting industry certainly has its fair share of professionals, so how do you choose a roofer that’s going to do their due diligence? AskARoofer Podcast hosts, Megan Ellsworth and Lauren White, sat down with roofing pros, Mike Franck of DaVinci Roofscapes, and Will Boyd of Renewal Roofing, to discuss how to pick the best roofer for you.
One of the best things to do to find the most reputable roofer in your area, is to do your research on social media. Will says that “social media is the king of that arena.” He continues, “You're looking for somebody who's putting a bunch of jobs up on social media and you're able to find them and then look at them on Google or Yelp or whatever you're using. You're going to see a pretty realistic review board of people.”
It’s also very important to know up front that your roofer will maintain a fiduciary relationship with you. Will says you have to “trust your spidey-senses.” You also need to strike the right balance between a contractor who will get your project done in a timely fashion and an effective fashion. There are people in the industry sometimes referred to as “storm chasers” and they go to areas that are highly impacted by storms to help repair homes and alleviate the work load of local contractors. More storms equal more damage which equals more contractors which causes heavy saturation of your contractor options. Mike says, “It's a balance by who can do it in a timely manner, and who can do it right. I don't think a homeowner should ever sacrifice the end result. You should never sacrifice doing it right just because somebody can do it quicker.”
