In this AskARoofer™ podcast, Megan Ellsworth and Lauren White sit down with Renee Ramey to talk about why homeowners should consider metal for their next reroof. Renee is the executive director of the Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) and has been involved in the organization for decades now. She explained their goal, sharing, “MRA is a nonprofit trade association that is focused on raising consumer awareness about metal roofing on all platforms available, and hopefully get homeowners to consider metal, seek out metal and understand the benefits that it provides.”
She briefly touched on these benefits, with one of the first points being that they last far longer than the typical asphalt roof. In general, homeowners can expect to get 40-50 years out of a metal roof that was installed properly and maintained well. This is about two to three times more than for asphalt. It also performs better over that longer lifespan, as Renee explained, “On every level, whether it be performance and weather events, or the longevity and the ease of maintenance, the lowering of heating, cooling costs, you name it, metal roofing brings a benefit.”
To help homeowners get the full picture of the benefits of metal roofing, Renee and MRA have built the Residential Metal Roofing Buyer’s Guide. This is a one-stop information shop about the process of choosing a new roof, and why metal is a good option. Renee elaborated, “It's not just about after you know you're getting a new roof. It's also about when do you know you need a new roof? What things should you consider when you're looking for a new roof as far as where you live regionally or things of that nature, through what options of roofing are out there.” Their goal is to help homeowners make the best decision for their lives and homes.
