In one of the AskARoofer Minisodes, Stephen Spence from Project Map It walks listeners through using the FindARoofer map. This is a free tool that can help both home and building owners. Stephen shared, “This map is comprised of 206 contractors throughout the United States and even in Canada. If you click on any of these pins, you’ll see a company's logo and how to contact the company.” From there, you can contact them or learn more about their services by accessing their RoofersCoffeeShop® directory (which is linked on the listing).
Recently, Lori and Matt Swanson, the owners of Guardian Roofing and Gutters in Auburn, Washington, came on to the series for a couple episodes about residential roof maintenance. In one episode they covered how to conduct a roof health check from the ground. Matt explained that this can help you save time and money by identifying issues early, “Even though most people that are walking around doing a health check on their roof maybe aren't experts, when there's something out place, it typically tends to stand out to even the novice.”
In the other episode, the Matt came back to talk a bit more specifically on strategies for maintaining the longevity and aesthetic of your roof through moss management. He explained, “The best way to not have a moss problem, is to prevent it from the beginning by doing routine maintenance on your roof. Specifically, by keeping it free of debris because the dirt and the debris is the source of where the moss grows in to begin with.”
Last but not least, the president of Armored Roofing, Katie Koetter Clymer, stopped by for an episode about the materials that are commonly used on commercial roofs. Katie explained that the three types she sees frequently are built-up, TPO and PVC. She went on to share a bit about what building owners should be thinking about when picking the material for their roof, “Protection-wise, they offer different things. You also always want to do a sample of an existing roof to see what's there, what type of deck there is, how many layers of roofs, what kinds of roofs were there, as that also affects which option will be best for that roof.”
The most recent AskARoofer Minisode launched on November 13, 2024 and covers the importance of proper attic insulation! Tune in and stay informed!
