Royalty Roofing wanted to do something special to honor those who served in the military. They put out a post on Facebook with a nomination form for veterans in need to receive roof repairs or a new roof completely free. Jaelyn Cunningham, the wife of veteran Matthew Cunningham, quickly jumped on the opportunity and submitted her husband’s name for the nomination.
Matthew gleefully told the Tribune, “She told me, but to be honest, I had forgotten about it because it took a while before they actually drew a winner.” Well on a fateful day this past fall, the Cunningham’s were selected out of 20 nominees to receive a brand-new roof.
The family was absolutely ecstatic to receive the roof. Matthew said, “It’s like something you wish you could ask for your birthday or Christmas, but you don’t ever get anything like this. It’s something worthwhile. There aren’t too many grown-man gifts you can get that mean something.” Not only did Royalty Roofing replace the roof on the main house, but they replaced the roof on the detached garage as well.
This kind gesture came at a time when the Cunningham’s really needed it. Matthew was diagnosed with promyelocytic leukemia and has not been able to work. “I was in the hospital for four months, and then I was bedridden for about another two months. After that, getting back on my feet, so I’m kind of still coming off that.” Things have definitely been a little brighter around the Cunningham household recently though. Matthew is currently in remission and the family just had a new baby. “I’m a stay-at-home dad for now,” Matthew said. “I’ve had a rough last year, but everything is looking up now.”
