National survey shows homeowners neglect roof maintenance

Recently The Hanover Insurance Group® commissioned The Harris Poll to conduct a nationwide survey of homeowners to find out with what type of regularity consumers take important safety measures around the home. Things like changing HVAC filters and batteries in smoke detectors.

Up on the roof

A big topic was roofs. Why? Because, more than any other product, roofs protect our homes from mother nature. So, homeowners were asked if, during the past 12 months, they inspected their roofs for storm damage.

The answer? Nationwide, 62% of respondents said they did not check their roofs for issues like damaged shingles and sealants. In fact, in this survey, it was the top issue least likely to be undertaken by homeowners.
