In need of attic intake ventilation, this Texas homeowner asked for recommendations.

Looking for advice on intake ventilation for his attic, Kyle, a homeowner in Texas, turned to the experts!  He asked:

What type of intake ventilation do you recommend is best for attic ventilation?

Below is what our roofing expert John Stout from Go Roof Tune Up had to say in response:

Intake ventilation should be down low in the attic.  Exhaust ventilation should be near the ridge.  Soffit vents are usually ideal for the intake vents.  Intake vents down low allow air to flow freely to the exhaust vents at the top of the attic.  Soffit vents are ideal if possible.  Roof vents mounted low on the roof are also adequate for attic ventilation.

Exhaust vents mounted high on the roof will establish a passive flow of air in the attic.  Ridge vents are very satisfactory for exhaust air.  Generally, a 50% intake and 50% exhaust will give you ideal air flow.  The formula for intake/exhaust air changes with different climate zones.

Hopefully, this information will be helpful when deciding to install your attic ventilation.
