Meet Barbie Copp, owner of Copp Roofing & Construction Inc. and the recent winner of the DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor 2022 Project of the Year Award.

Set on Lake Arrowhead in California, the Pavan home looks like a rainbow softly landed on the roof. The perfect installation of a DaVinci Multi-Width Slate roof in the Vineyard blend of eight colors helped this roof get named a DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor 2022 Project of the Year Winner.

“I didn’t want the homeowner to worry about the standard asphalt composition shingle look,” says Barbie Copp with Copp Roofing & Construction, Inc. “The location of this house is such a ‘wow factor’ that it demands a quality roof. The DaVinci slate makes the house pop with color, charm, and it looks beautiful!”

Overview: 2022 Project of the Year

The road to a new roof started for the Pavan family when their real slate roof began chipping and pieces were falling off. After speaking with Copp Roofing & Construction for a number of years, Nino Pavan was finally swayed to replace his slate roof with the colorful DaVinci composite slate roof. He was impressed with everything from the lightweight nature of the tiles to their resistance to cracking, impact and fire.

The stunning Vineyard blend of Dark and Medium Tan, Light and Medium Gray, Dark Stone, Light and Dark Violet and Dark Amber have made his home a “lakeside landmark.

“I have high standards when it comes to companies performing services at my property,” says Nino Pavan. “Copp Roofing met those standards throughout the entire roofing process. They provided us with excellent service with great attention to detail.”

Insights from a winning roofer

Copp Roofing & Construction, Inc. has been in business for 26 years. The company serves all of California and is expanding operations into Nevada and Arizona. Barbie shared some insights about her career and bringing composites into her roofing mix to increase sales.

Q: How did you get started in the roofing business?

A: Actually I began in the construction industry first, then found my way into roofing. I “married into roofing” when my husband George and I wedded in 1995. He started this company. Our lives changed in 1997 when George suffered a broken back as a result of a roofing accident. That’s when I stepped up to run the company. It’s been a great career and we’ve built a terrific team at Copp Roofing & Construction.

Q: What makes your company recommend DaVinci products over competitive composite products?

A: DaVinci products are aesthetically beautiful. We live in an exclusive mountaintop town. We’ve got everything from castles to cabins up here. Over the years we’ve found that DaVinci adds a positive statement to every kind of project we do.

Q: How have DaVinci products helped increase sales for your company?

A: DaVinci put us on the map in Southern California and our mountain area. We introduced DaVinci to our homeowners in 2005 and never looked back. There were years when we’ve had nearly 100 DaVinci installs. Customers love the product and it has features that are essential for our area. The appearance of the fire-resistant shakes is very natural, and our customers love it.

Q: When selling DaVinci products to a new customer, what are the features and benefits that customers react best to?

A: The product’s authentic beauty, impact- and fire-resistance, along with low maintenance are all key elements our customers appreciate. The impact resistance is huge in snow areas. The fire resistance is critical since we live in a high-fire risk area. As real wood shake roofs are continually being replaced in California, DaVinci offers the most natural rustic wood shake look. And, the DaVinci Slate is all about the charm. Both add strong curb appeal to a home.

Q: What’s your dream roofing job?

A: A major project in Hawaii. We’re in the mountains, and we have plans to branch out soon into Nevada and Arizona. So, our team would love to trade in the mountain views for awhile and do something near the ocean!

Q: Finally, if you absolutely had to change professions tomorrow, what do you think you’d do?

A: I’d probably like to put my construction knowledge to good use. I’d teach about the do’s and don’ts in the construction industry. Maybe work with homeowners to help educate them. I’m locked into this industry and would love to give back to it in some way.
