In Erie, Pennsylvania, Marine veteran Chris Czigler was recently honored for his service with the gift of a brand-new roof. When he first realized he needed a new roof, he wasn’t sure how he would pay for it. But thanks to Angelo’s Roofing and Construction, Chris doesn’t have to worry about that anymore.
"Most likely, I'd be in a hole trying to get the money — maybe have to put a lien on the home, such things like that," Chris told Erie News Now. "Yes, it's a great great help financially."
Not only was Chris in need of a new roof, but he has been struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder after a training injury that led him to retire. “With PTSD it’s hard. I’ve had a lot of mixed emotions overwhelming and so grateful to be honored like this. I don’t think a lot of people understand what most people in the service go through in the lives,” he told YourErie News.
Angelo’s Roofing operates in the Erie and Pittsburgh areas of Pennsylvania. For a while, the roofing and construction company has wanted to give back to veterans in the community. Owner Andy Vinca has now decided to start an annual Roof-a-Vet event in which he and other companies give veteran’s new roofs. He plans on giving a free roof to a veteran every year during Veteran’s Week as a token of appreciation for their service.
The whole project cost an estimated $15,000, but thankfully Angelo’s Roofing was not alone. Andy told YourErie News, “B&L gave us materials. Pro Waste is doing the dumpster. Jen from Tim Horton’s is giving us breakfast and lunch. Silkscreen unlimited is doing the hoodies. Lowes is doing the wood, and Signs for Less is doing a nice banner. So we couldn’t do it without everyone’s help.”
