Landmark Roofing graciously donates a roof to a local food pantry so people can access their building again.

The SPAN (Serving People Across Neighborhoods) organization in Severna Park, Maryland has been providing food and financial assistance to their community since 1990. But due to the pandemic and a leaky roof, they had to shut off access to their lobby. If people needed to get food, they’d have to go to the back porch to pick it up. Upon hearing this, Landmark Roofing stepped up and lent a helping hand to this valuable organization.

Landmark Roofing owners Rob Calhan and Artie Hendricks were quick to help the organization when they heard about their roof. After the project was completed in September, Rob and Artie decided to check up on the organization. While there, the two were greeted by the many thankful staff members.

“We didn't think it was that big of a deal,” Rob told Severna Park Voice. “But when they started crying, it was this really cool thing you just want to do again.”

This is not the first time that Landmark Roofing has given back to their community. In fact, every year they hold a roof giveaway where the winner is chosen via social media. They’ve also donated to the Wellness House in Annapolis, which helps cancer patients and their families. This organization offers support to these people by giving them a safe space to cope and recover.

“I was raised that your character is what you do when nobody's looking. We really try to put that into the business. All that stuff that we do here, the donations, we don't do it for the glitz and glamour,” Artie told Severna Park Voice.

The charitable giving of the organization has not been overlooked by their community. Last year they were given the Harmony Award from the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce (GSPACC).

Rob and Artie are incredibly thankful to have set up their roofing business in the Severna Park area. “I said at the beginning, I don't think we would have had the success we had if we did not set up here,” Artie shared. “It's a close-knit community and they wanted to use a local company. The Severna Park community wants to work with local businesses, which you don't see that very often anymore.”
