We speak with roof restoration experts about why a well-trained roofer is so important to building owners.

For building owners, investing in a roof restoration can be difficult on your wallet. But one of the best ways to save money on a new roof for your building is by having it installed by roofers you know are well-trained. In a recent podcast, we spoke with Greg Hlavaty and Hal Leland from Western Colloid about the work they do educating roofers about the best practices for installing fluid applied reinforced roofing (FARR) systems.

Investing in a FARR system is a great option for many reasons. These types of roofs can be installed over an existing roof, they are highly durable and come with an energy-efficient reflective coating. But all of these qualities are moot if the roofer installing them is not properly educated in how to install these types of roofs. That’s why Western Colloid has recently launched their FARR Best Practices for contractors to help teach them about installing FARR systems the right way.

Greg, Western Colloid’s president, told us they are very excited about this new program. “We're really excited to share it with contractors,” he said. “A lot of it pertains to even building owners. It's things to ask when you're working with a contractor, if you see that they understand the things that we're explaining, then often, they can understand they have the right contractor for their building.”

He goes on to state that this program will in turn help building owners save money since contractors will get their roof installed properly the first time. If the contractor does a poor job, then this can cost the building owner more money to get the roof fixed.

Many of the Best Practices training videos and podcasts are hosted by Chris Ford and Tim Ford who work with Western Colloid in their technical and training services department. Hal, Western Colloid’s general manager, applauds the two for their hands-on approach with training contractors.

“They're ready to go. They come and they're expecting our crews to be as ready as they are,” he said. “It's just really refreshing. These guys are so invested in it. We have the best support team.”
