Cypress Woods is a beautiful condominium community located in the Orlando, Florida area. Established in 1974, it features 160 residences across 20 buildings and includes a staffed clubhouse, tennis courts and two community swimming pools.
Unfortunately, the community did not invest in maintaining the roofs on the 20 buildings and their condition was deteriorating rapidly. In Orlando, the average annual rainfall is 52 inches, much higher than the U.S. average of 38 inches per year. The roofs were no longer able to protect the condominiums from water intrusion and 18 out of the 20 buildings were experiencing damaging roof leaks.
Cypress Woods’ Association Board was faced with the challenge of undertaking enormous repairs with little money in the association reserve fund. The leaky roofs were causing internal damage to the units and they needed to find a cost-effective solution to stop the leaks while they explored ways to fund repairs.
Board Vice President and Secretary Troy Berube said that they had never heard of Stormseal, the strong polyethylene film that heat-shrinks to cover a damaged structure until permanent repairs are made, so he was very interested when Roofing Pioneers mentioned this as a temporary solution until they could secure the funds to make permanent repairs.
“We thought it was a great idea and we decided to install Stormseal on all 20 of our buildings,” shared Troy. “Even though only 18 had leaks, we wanted to do all the buildings just in case something happened.”
Stormseal was put to the test when Hurricane Eta moved across Florida, dumping heavy rains onto Cypress Woods. “None of the residents who had roof leaks have reported any leaks since Stormseal was installed,” said Troy.
The community of Cypress Woods has put a stop to their leaking roofs, preventing additional damage until they can explore all of the opportunities to fund the permanent repairs. “We are very happy with the performance,” Troy said. “I would definitely recommend the product.”
