Learn about why roofing is such a crucial investment in your home and how composite offers the best of both looks and performance.

In a new episode of the AskARoofer Podcast, hosts Megan Ellsworth and Lauren White sit down with Wendy Bruch and Will Boyd to talk about what investing in a high-quality roof can do for homeowners. Wendy is a marketing manager for DaVinci Roofscapes with over 15 years of industry experience and Will is the owner of Renewal Roofing in Atlanta, Georgia and has worked around the industry since he was 21.

Between the decades of experience this duo has, they have seen firsthand that a roof is one of the best ways to increase the value of a home. This is backed up by a 2022 remodeling impact report that was sponsored by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry and the National Association of Realtors which showed roofing as one of the top two projects that can be done with 100% cost recovery. Wendy shared a little bit of context to this report, saying, “By securing your house from the top down, you're kind of giving it that crown to add to the curb appeal that helps with even what they called in the study, that joy factor. It's also just helping people be more secure in their homes.”

For Will, a favorite material to work with is DaVinci composite tiles. He explained what these are, sharing, “Composite and synthetic roofing is designed to mimic or imitate organic slate and shake. It's a fancy plastic, but it's polymer based so they last forever versus needing maintenance like a real cedar roof.” In addition to performing better with less maintenance than traditional roofing materials, composite will retain its visual value. Wendy shared, “With products like DaVinci and composites, you're able to retain the color, so the color you want is the color you keep. You're not going to start with this fresh cedar look and then have gray shingles at the end. That means you keep that aesthetic and that curb appeal when you get these products.”

Retaining that value is more important than ever with rising house prices. Will explained, “On streets and fancy neighborhoods where houses with a specialty trade roof of composite shake or slate, we see those homes sell quicker and for a higher cost than those next door... We even have builders in Atlanta that are now only using composite slate and shake products on new construction homes because the roof's last for the home’s lifetime and it's bringing a higher premium for that house versus the one literally next door with a shingle roof.”
