In this episode of the AskARoofer podcast, Megan Ellsworth and Lauren White hosted Jack Gottesman from IKO Industries along with Matt and Erin Weston of Calendar Construction in West Virginia. They discussed the power of curb appeal. This directly correlates to your home’s value, and the roof is a huge influence when it comes to appeal. Erin explained, “Even if the rest of your home is gorgeous, that ugly roof will not do you any justice. When we think of curb appeal, we want your home to flow cohesively on the exterior and then all be tied together with a beautiful roof.”
IKO products come in a variety of colors that can help improve the curb appeal of homes. Jack highlighted their Performance line, sharing, “Those shingles are made with what we call a four-color drop. So, when you look at the granules and when you look at the granule composition and the color composition that's making up those shingles, that burst of color that comes out of it, we're using four different shades of granules on the shingle itself.” This creates a high-definition look that makes a home stand out in the best way.
And not only do IKO products look good, but they also create a safe and secure roof. Matt pointed to the benefits of IKO’s ArmourZone. This is a reinforcing tape that resists wind uplift. Further, it is designed to be quick and easy to install. Matt explained why he thinks this is such a powerful product, saying, “You could be in the middle of a job when a pop-up storm comes and everyone's nailing fast with that ArmourZone. You have a larger nailing area than you do with your Cambridge or lower line shingles... And with that ArmourZone, it protects you. It doesn't allow those nails to pull through the shingle.”
