$30,000 of roofing expenses done free of charge for Illinois native thanks to several hands-on roofers.

At 68 years old, Maxie Moore Jr., a Marine Corps Veteran, had spent over a decade living in his current home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. And almost as long as Maxie had been in the house, the roof had needed repairs. With the help of several programs and Alpha and Omega Construction, Maxie’s roof was renovated for free.

Maxie had spent four years in service as a Marine, and right before Independence Day he was approved for a new roof. His roof had plenty of water damage because it had been leaking on both sides of the house. “I’m definitely going to appreciate the new roof, especially when it rains,” Maxie told The Southern Illinoisan. The roofers removed four layers of roof to reveal the rotting wood causing all the leaking and damage. “If it’s leaking in the house, the damage happened quite a while ago usually,” Alpha and Omega general manager Cory Norville said. He recommends people have their roofs inspected every five years for possible weather damage.

Alpha and Omega Construction provided the labor needed to replace the roof, and Owens Corning and R.P. Lumber donated the materials to build the roof. Overall, the project was estimated to cost upwards of $30,000. “I’m really appreciative,” Maxie said. “The roof really needed it, and I sure couldn’t afford one.”

This deserving veteran was approved for the Roof Deployment Project by Owens Corning which has helped make a difference in not only Maxie’s life but hundreds of veterans around the country. Owens Corning partners with a local roofing company and provides all the needed roofing materials while the roofing company donates their skills. The program was initially started in 2016 and has only grown since then. Over 500 veterans and families have been helped with their new roofs since the project’s inception. Maxie is one of the many hard working and exemplary people that have had their lives changed by this opportunity.
