There is a lot to consider when re-roofing. Luckily, the AskARoofer Podcast has industry experts that are ready to answer the hard-hitting and burning questions that homeowners have. Jack Gottesman of IKO Products and Erin and Matt Weston of Calendar Construction lent their expert advice on what to consider when re-roofing.
One of the things to consider when re-roofing is how the re-roofing will affect your curb appeal. “Curb appeal matters so much for your home value,” says Erin, “Your roof is a huge part of exterior design. So your roof may not be to the point that you need a new roof structurally, but if you have a streaked or algae-covered roof, there is nothing that will ruin your curb appeal faster. It also hurts your home value no matter what neighborhood you're in, even if the rest of your home is gorgeous, that ugly roof will not do you any justice. When we think of curb appeal, we want your home to flow cohesively on the exterior and then all be tied together with a beautiful roof.”
Even if you don’t “need” a new roof, it’s still something to consider at least for aesthetic purposes. Erin’s husband, Matt, added, “And if you're thinking about your roof, it's because there's definitely something that you don't like about it.”
It’s so important to have the right contractor in mind when you’re bringing them in to work on a project. “You want to make sure that you have someone that does this professionally,” Jack said, “It's a big part of your home both in terms of the safety and security of the people living inside of the home and the beauty and the curb appeal for those passing your home. You want to make sure that it gets done right. And so you need to find the right person to do it.”
