Q: I live in North Carolina and I'm getting a new roof. Do I need snow guards if I get a synthetic slate roof?

A: Snow Guards are required in certain Climate Zones.  Changing to Synthetic Slate Roof should not change the need for snow guard. It may be good to check with the local Building Department and the Product Manufacturer to see if they have special requirements for your area.
