Below is what our roofing expert Austin Barnhart from Quality Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc had to say in response to your question:
The simple answer is yes. There are different ways of attachment with different styles of metal roofing. It is recommended that an underlayment be installed over the shingles and the wood battens be installed over the underlayment; the roof panels installed and attached the wood battens. Other companies might say otherwise but that is how we would do it.
