Luise in California asked:

We have ordered GAF Forest Brown shingles (Grand Sequoia Series outside California) with an SRI of 18 for our home in Santa Cruz, CA. These shingles will replace wood shakes. . Our question is how different is an SRI rating of 18 from 20 (GAF Timberline HDZRS). And how much less heat absorption would there be with shingles rated 30? The home is in a somewhat foggy area with large trees around it. We'd appreciate any information to understand the impact of these differences before the shingles go on the roof. Would so appreciate a swift response by email or phone. Thanks very much.

Below is what our roofing expert Carlos Rodriguez from Mr. Roofing had to say in response to your question:
This is a very specific question and I recommend that they call GAF and their technical department, 877-423-7663.

They might be able to get some support from the local GAF representative in Santa Cruz? His name is Sean Ryan and his email is SRyan@gaf.com
