Finding a leak in your commercial building’s roof is the last thing building owners want. But when you do find yourself in this situation, it can be a confusing and overwhelming dilemma to deal with. Thankfully, Sentry Roofing has written a detailed guide for building owners on the steps they must take when they find their commercial roof has a leak. The article also discusses the many causes of a roof leak as well as who to call when you need help fixing it.
According to their guide, these are the three main steps to take when you find a leak in your commercial roof:
Take a good look at your ceiling for any evidence of damage from leaking and mark it accordingly. Sentry Roofing recommends doing this when the leak is occurring so that even when it dries, the roofing contractor can still identify where the leak was coming in.
You’ll want to clear the area where the leak is coming through, especially if water is getting into an area where you hold expensive equipment. If you are unable to move this equipment easily, cover it up with a tarp.
When a roof leaks, it doesn’t just affect the roof. You’ll want to also have your building’s ductwork and structural members examined for damages, as a leaky roof can impact these areas as well.
Read the entire article from Sentry Roofing for more details about the steps you should take when your commercial roof is leaking.
