The best time to install a ventilation system for the attic, if you do not have one, is during a re-roof project. Your roofer should be able to calculate the square footage of the house and custom design the best system for you. Since every home is different in shapes and sizes, every attic ventilation system will be different.
The low profile vents used in this video worked well, venting 72 inches of net free air space. Using this type of dormer vent near the lower part of the attic draws the cooler outside air into the attic. Using the same type of vents at the ridge or a ridge vent system, allows the hot air from the attic to exhaust out. This application works great in Sacramento California, or warmer climates of the country that won’t see much snow in the winter. Ice and snow build up near the eave would have poor results.
Please get advice from a local contractor. The picture below is a half-round dormer vent and a different style than the O’Hagin Vents shown. This half-round vent will allow about one hundred inches of ventilation depending on the roof deck opening and design of the opening and size of the screen used.
