By Kate Smith, chief color maven, Sensational Color.
As a salute to National Curb Appeal Month in August, I’ve just finished creating the new eBook “FRESH Colors: Color Schemes for Your Home Exteriors.” This information-packed free online e-book provides you with top-down curb appeal guidance for seven homes styles: Colonial-, Ranch-, Bungalow-, Victorian-, Spanish Mission-, European-, and New American-styles of home exteriors. There are 35 different color palettes of opportunities for you to see how the outside of your home will look with a new makeover of color!
As with the other FRESH eBooks I’ve created, this one also features roofing from DaVinci Roofscapes. I always recommend starting at the top of a house when determining colors for a home, and that means beginning with the roof. No matter what the style of the home, the roof on most structures is a big part of what you see. It must coordinate with the other materials and colors on your exterior to create a harmonious scheme.
This eBook offers roofing color suggestions matched with the style of the home, but then moves deeper to suggest colors for the main features of the home, followed by the trim, shutters, front door and accents. Together these colors create a cohesive exterior with incredible curb appeal.
As with the other eBooks I’ve created for DaVinci, I encourage homeowners to take the FRESH approach when creating an eye-pleasing palette for a home exterior. You should evaluate the Fixed Features, Regional Colors, Environment & Surroundings, Style of the Home and the Historic or HOA Colors involved in your property.
Using the FRESH way of thinking makes it easy to create a unified top-to-bottom home exterior. For this updated eBook, I’ve offered five different color palettes for each home style. I started each home with different colors of composite shake and slate roofing from DaVinci Roofscapes. Then I match them with fixed features such as Cultured Stone®, Eldorado Stone® and Versetta Stone®. I’ve added in complementary paint recommendations for trim and accents around the exterior.
In addition to authoring the online eBooks, I’m also available to provide free color support to homeowners exploring new or replacement roofs. I can answer color questions and offer advice to help guide consumers through the process of choosing a roof color blend to complement your home.
I’ve found that people often need a “sounding board” for their color ideas. I offer support and oftentimes reassurance that their idea will work well. Other times folks will seek new ideas to unify the colors on their home exteriors. I can assist them with suggestions, tools and guidance specific to their project. This customized attention gives them confidence in moving forward with their color selections. Perhaps that’s the kind of support I can offer you.
And remember, DaVinci also offers dozens of roofing colors and color blends. I often recommend that people visit the Color Visualizer so that homeowners can see what different types of roofing and colors might look like on their home.
If you’re ready to “get FRESH” with colors on your home exterior, then download all the support materials DaVinci has to offer:
