Maureen from Buffalo, NY asked, "What do you think of the Timberline HD Ultra and the Golden Pledge Warranty from GAF?"
The Timberline HD Ultra has extra-thick layered design compared to the other standard architectural shingles. It will give your roof a heavier looking roof and is well worth the investment, in my opinion. My personal favorite color in the Timberline HD Ultra is the Mission Brown. Here is a video I emailed to a customer that was out-of-town while the project was in progress. Mission Brown Ultra With the addition of the Golden Pledge Warranty this is one of the best roofing systems available and here is why.
The term warranty sometimes gets lost or confused during the negotiations with your roofing contractor but is very important. There are two different warranties. Typically the manufacturer stands behind the materials and the roofer stands the labor to install them.
You may be surprised to know if your installer does not follow the manufactures specifications and the roof has a failure, most likely the manufactures of any type of roofing will not honor the labor for repairs and normally voids any materials warranty because it was improperly installed. Now you must rely on the contractor to take care of the problem which, if he is still around, may not want to do. Using the Timberline HD Ultra with the Golden Pledge Warranty is very interesting because it removes the contractor from the warranty and GAF accepts all the liability. Why would they do that? GAF Master Elite contractors can provide the Golden Pledge Warranty
GAF has a network of contractors that less than 3% of contractors in the USA can qualify for. They are called Master Elite. These Master Elite contractors are trained and certified by GAF to install roofing systems that have the Golden Pledge Warranty. The system goes beyond the minimum requirements of installing roofs. Over many years of providing warranties, a company like GAF knows where roof failure occurs. The Golden Pledge Warranty addresses these areas and provides guidelines for securing that these areas do not fail. The Master Elite contractor is trained and certified to install these types of roofing systems.
The key to the Golden Pledge System is that GAF actually comes out to your home and inspect these roofs with a multi-point inspection list. Once that inspection has been completed and done correctly, GAF stands behind the materials and labor. Using a GAF materials and a certified contractor to do your roof, gives most customers peace of mind.
After all, a warranty is only as good as the manufacturer that stands behind it. Maureen, I have sold these warranties for over ten years and the customers love them very much.
