With long summer days still ahead of us, August is the perfect time to reflect on how to make upgrades to our houses, lawns and landscaping. During National Curb Appeal Month in August, DaVinci Roofscapes™ offers a variety of tips for color coordinating the home exterior. 

The slate and shake composite roofing manufacturer has issued an updated version of its popular ebook, “FRESH Home Exterior Colors.” Authored by internationally recognized color expert Kate Smith, the ebook offers insights into creating a cohesive home exterior by considering several key elements:

Smith recommends taking a “top down” approach when accessing the home. For most home designs, the roof accounts for much of the home’s visual impact. After determining the fixed features of the home exterior — for example, the brick or stonework — she relates that their color casts can then help determine the direction for the color of the roof and other elements of the home. 

“The eBook guides homeowners through looking at their home with a set of fresh eyes,” says Smith. “There are tips to understand things they may not have previously considered. Such as how historic colors may come into play based on the design of their home. Or, how accent colors on shutters and trim can unite the entire look of a home, enhancing its curb appeal.

Because it’s not always easy for people to truly envision how their home will look with different colors and products, Smith encourages homeowners to use online manufacturer visualizers.
