Theresa DeFairia is loved by everyone she knows for her positive spirit and unwavering faith. It came as a shock to many when they discovered her house had seen so much unrepaired damage over the years that the city of Orlando was set to condemn her home. Thankfully, her entire community banded together to fix her home and make it a livable place once again.
The extent of the damage Theresa’s home faced had made it to where it was unsafe for her to live there. After a major storm, a tree branch fell onto the roof and the roof has been leaking water ever since. Because Theresa lives on social security and disability assistance, it became hard for her to spend money on repairs.
When a close friend of hers, Carolina Escobar, learned about Theresa’s living conditions, she immediately gathered her community together to help her out. She spread the word on social media, made a GoFundMe page and even reached out to local news stations for help. Since then, donations have been pouring in and her home has seen extensive repairs over the past few months.
1st Class Roofing was gracious enough to give Theresa a new roof by donating labor and supplies. The company came across Theresa’s story and felt they had to do something about her situation. Owner Glenn Roberts told News6, “It touched our hearts and we were like this is something we need to do. It feels right.”
With more repairs on the way, Theresa will soon be able to live in her home again. She told News6, “I want to stay here because I love it here. This is where God sent me.”
