Erik, a homeowner in Washington, shared an image of his roof (see above) and wanted another expert’s opinion on how many layers of shingles his roof has.
How many layers of shingles are pictured? Several companies told us one layer on an estimate bid. Now once signing we are told there is a second layer of tear off. I'm having trouble seeing it as two layers though. Any help is appreciated.
Wendy Marvin, CEO and owner of Matrix Roofing and Home Solutions, had this to say in response to Erik’s question:
It’s very difficult to tell from a single photo. This appears to be showing one layer of shingles. However, what often happens is that a second layer can be “cut back” to only be found further up in the roof? Perhaps a video while the roofer is inspecting is in order?
Adding a second layer to tear off and dispose of is a hefty additional cost to the homeowner. The roofer should be willing to document via picture or video, why they believe there is a second layer.
Hope this helps!
