Angelo’s Roofing went beyond the call of duty this Veterans Day by fixing a Vietnam Vet’s roof pro bono. Despite their busy schedule, the Angelo’s Roofing owner, Andy Vinca, told YourErie, “It was important to stop for at least one day and honor our veterans.” He went on to say that he wanted to bring awareness for all of the sacrifices that veterans have made to preserve our freedom. Several other local businesses decided to chip in and do their due-diligence to help out the Vietnam hero as well. E&L Wholesale Supply provided the materials, Pro Waste Services provided the dumpster, and the local Lowe’s supplied the wood necessary to fix up the roof.
When the contractors arrived, the roof was in very poor shape and was in desperate need of repairs. The wood was completely rotten and the shingles were falling off as well. The wonderful gesture made the Navy Veteran and recipient, Reid Walker very grateful. He told Fox 66 Erie, “It’s wonderful. We didn’t know what we were going to do when it rains. Then when it snows, what are you going to do?” This is the second-annual “roof-a-vet” promotion that Angelo’s Roofing has done and they plan to continue the tradition for years to come.
In a world where so many veterans are struggling financially, it is certainly a wonderful feat to watch a local community rally to give back to those who served. This is such an amazing precedent to set for not just the Erie community, but for Americans as a whole. More companies should take note and follow in Angelo’s Roofing’s footsteps, as these amazing acts of service go a long way in showing our heroes just how much we appreciate their service.
