The Original Roofing Company is the January R-Club Roofer of the Month!

From cedar shakes to commercial success, learn how The Original Roofing Company built a legacy of quality and loyalty.

The Coffee Shops are kicking off the R-Club Roofer of the Month podcast in 2025 with an episode about The Original Roofing Company from Las Vegas, Nevada! To hear about their journey and successes, our R-Club Coordinator, Alex Tolle, sat down with Mike Coddington. Mike is the COO at The Original Roofing Company. He has worked with them for over two decades, as he explained, “I started in 1997 as the safety coordinator and progressed up through the company into sales. Then I took a short stint away from Las Vegas in general in 2006 and eventually moved back in 2012. I started working back here again and in 2013 I took upon the operations role, and I've been running it ever since.”

Just like Mike, who has done a little bit of everything at the company, The Original Roofing Company is a bit of a jack of all trades. Mike shared, “I like to say we do anything, any type of roofing system other than your spray foam. And I'm quite confident, our specialty is all those systems that we do perform. We've been here in the Valley for over 60 plus years.” The Original Roofing Company’s story started in 1964 with residential cedar shake installations. From there they began working with other materials (such as shingles and tiles) and eventually found themselves expanding into the commercial, low-slope sector.  

Today, they are a bit of a one-stop shop. Not only do they work in a wide variety of roofing spaces, they do a lot of work in-house. Mike explained, “We have a full-service metal shop, so we fabricate metals and then install different types of panel systems and wall panels in different fascia soffit. So when we're going to market, we can package that together and gives our customers a one-stop shop for not have to worry about multiple subs. We can fill in that gap there for them.”

Mike credits their long history of success to more than just diverse offerings giving them a competitive edge; he credits their team. Impressively, about 50% of the 250 staff members at The Original Roofing Company have worked with them for five years or more. And 15% of those people have been with them for over 20 years! These are the people that have and continue to make The Original Slate Company a leader in the Las Vegas roofing market. Mike elaborated, “Without them, we don't have a company. Longevity is really key for us, being in an industry that's really high turnover, we pride ourselves on that.”
