Unlock your roofing company’s potential through collaborative efforts with local solar companies to maximize customer satisfaction.

In a recent episode of the AskARoofer podcast, hosts Lauren White and Megan Ellsworth sat down with Kyle Nurminen of Total Roofing Systems and Mark Swift of Solar Energy Systems to discuss the collaborative potential between solar and roofing companies. The two guests share their insights into unlocking the synergy between the two industries and how to make the most of your local markets through such a collaborative effort.

Kyle shared that it can be hard for homeowners to work with solar contractors and roofing contractors as separate entities, which makes communication and project planning a bit difficult to deal with. Meanwhile, if the two companies were in collaboration from the start, he shared, things would be much different and go far smoother from the get-go.

“Roofing contractors and solar contractors on their own tend to get frustrated by one another as they usually have to work side by side. And that's why in the industry, professionals have learned to solidify relationships with like-minded companies with like-minded operations management,” Kyle explained. “We both understand that we're not just there to make a sale, we're there to do what's best for the customer overall, and that's not just today, but in the long run.”

Collaborating can make a project better not only for the solar and roofing companies, but for the customer and their home’s lifespan. As metal roofs and solar panel systems have different lifespans, it can be incredibly beneficial for the installers of each to be on the same page when it comes to installation methods, materials and project timelines that work best for everyone, especially the customer.

Mark elaborated, “The roof is the home for the solar panel system. When the roof is done properly, and especially when it's done by somebody like Kyle and his team who care, who are doing the right thing for the customer, I don't have to worry about building my house on sand... It is so superior when we have a relationship where we're working closely together, where I know exactly what kind of quality I'm walking into.”
