Every month, The Coffee Shops highlight the journey of one of our R-Club Members through our Roofer of the Month program! For August, join Megan Ellsworth as she talks to Josh Yandle from Umbrella Roofing in this episode of the Roofer of the Month podcast! Josh, along with Jake Borah and Derek Barton, started the Eagle County, Colorado branch of Umbrella Roofing. They are a medium-sized company with 30-40 full-time employees and operate in both the residential and commercial sectors.
Josh described their specialty as working with custom and complex roof systems. He elaborated, “We are really good at the hands-on of really complex, difficult projects. We like those projects. We find that we are a lot more competitive on those type of projects just because of the way that we're structured with full-time employees versus a company that uses mostly sub crews.”
Working mostly with synthetic roofs, Umbrella Roofing also specializes in custom metal roofs as well. One of the things that enables them to do this effectively is their sheet metal shop. With these difficult projects, they’ve built a reputation of quality. Josh shared, “Our quality is kind of the biggest reason that most people go with us. We read the manufacturer instructions on all of our installs and understand those.”
The culture they have built is a huge part of their appeal as well, according to Josh. One thing that Josh and Umbrella Roofing are especially proud of is their ability to use their unique skillset to give back to the community around them. He explained, “We do a program called 1% Close to Home, which allows us to donate 1% of our gross revenue back to the community. And sometimes that is by just knocking on someone's door who can't necessarily afford to have the roof replaced.” Within this program, they’ve also used their sheet metal shop to build over one thousand bikes for kids in their area, which has become a community event. Josh shared, “They all get shipped in on a big truck in boxes. And then we have a team of volunteers that come out and help us construct hundreds of bikes and then size them for the kids. And it's amazing watching the kids riding around with their new bikes.”
